How does a mom with old-fashioned economic values cope in a world where consumerism, excess, irresponsibility, and debt rule? My thoughts on being thrifty and raising sensible kids in todays 'gimme-gimme-I-deserve-it' world

I'm an opinionated 45 year old mother of 5 under 7 (after ten years of infertility), a lifelong comic geek and Sci-Fi freak with a warped sense of humour, a livestock farmer, T-shirt designer, and thrifty do-it-yourselfer. Eclectic doesn't begin to describe me! I'm married to a wonderful Evil Genius who teaches middle-school and knows more about comic books than is healthy and we live happily out in the country on our 1880s farmstead. I'm dedicated to the frugal lifestyle, raising sensible children, and speaking out on the 'net.

Oh my! I know how you feel! ***Sniff*** It doens't matter if it is your 1st or your 5th - it is their first flight out of the nest. Be strong - he has the force with him...
Just wait until he's a senior like my oldest--my baby is turning into a man! What a milestone of a day for Boy, so sweet.
What a cool looking kindergartener!! Hope the week went well and that mom and boy survived!!!
Please update us on how it goes! My Feb 02 baby starts Wednesday.... He's my oldest as well.
