Scary fucking people
Check this shit out. (nicked straight off of Mike's blog *smooches*, thank you Mike!)
Just a few quotes:
Meet the Dominionists -- biblical literalists who believe God has called them to take over the U.S. government.
They want to rewrite schoolbooks to reflect a Christian version of American history, pack the nation's courts with judges who follow Old Testament law, post the Ten Commandments in every courthouse and make it a felony for gay men to have sex and women to have abortions. (emphasis mine)
Got the heebie jeebies yet? Try this:
the Dominionists are working to remake the federal courts in God's image. In their view, the Founding Fathers never intended to erect a barrier between politics and religion. "The First Amendment does not say there should be a separation of church and state," declares Alan Sears, [...] Sears argues that the constitutional guarantee against state-sponsored religion is actually designed to "shield" the church from federal interference -- allowing Christians to take their rightful place at the head of the government. (emphasis mine)
These nutjobs are assisted by folks like this gem of a citizen:
Kevin McCoy [who led] a successful campaign to shut down an anti-bullying program in West Virginia schools. [He] fought to end the program because it taught tolerance for gay people --
OK ... is it just me or are these some sick fucks? I have absolutely no problem with everyone practicing the religion of his or her choice and believing the things that they do. This is your right. I think that values and faith are good things. You're a christian? Good on ya. Have a peaceful life. Muslim? No problem. Jewish? Fine. Black, brown, cross-eyed, pidgeon toed, foot-fetishist, liberal, ferret-fancier ... whatever. I don't care. As long as you 1) don't try to convert me (I find feet revolting. I mean, eeewwww!), and 2) do what you do with freely consenting adult humans and 3) whatever it is doesn't affect me or my life.
I don't care if two grown men have sex together. I don't care if someone gets his dick pierced or his lip or his arsehole for that matter. I don't care if someone gathers once a week in a building with a bunch of other someones and has a complex ceremony involving talking to a thing that no one has ever seen and asking him to make their lives better. I don't care if someone spends his every waking moment outside work playing online PVP games and IM-ing people he'll never meet. I don't care that some people collect those creepy 'life-like' soft vinyl dolls that look like newborn babies. And dress them in real baby clothes. And buy real baby furniture and shit for them and set them up in their homes. Yes it squiks me out, but hey ... it doesn't harm me in any way.
So why does it matter?
What is this need to control other people who aren't harming you?
I personally dispise inbred white trash women in loads of make-up and clothes that don't fit them. I hate their Mary Kay cologne, their weird layered haircuts, and their love of anything Gone With The Wind. I can't abide their huge ugly painted toenails sticking out from those tacky plastic sandals they love so much.
But as much as *I* would feel better with legislation banning them from my sight these people are still somebody's mom, someone's wife, another's daughter and I have no right to tell them how they can or can't live as long as it's not hurting me.
I just stay out of the Lexington Wal-Mart and everyone's happy.

Feel free to nick anytime you want dah-ling. I liked what you had to say . Generally I think people need to just mind their own f'ing business. To each his or her own and as long as it is not hurting or exploiting anyone, then knock yourselves out.
I also find it ironic that the Bush Organization is so self-righteous on the gay marriage thing and now we find that a so-called reporter/gay escort had unlimited access to the White House over the last several years. Of course, this whole story has been swept under the rug and kept out of the news for the time being.
It is so obvious that they are using each other, Bush and the Christian Fundamentalists. Bush uses them to get their votes. He pays lip service to some of their hot issues and introduces some legislation to show he is "a man of his word". And the fundamentalists are using their political connections to somehow validate that they are leading some righteous cause.
Any way you look at it though, this is not going to end well in my opinion. But there is plenty of room up here in Canada if you want to come up. ;-)
I agree with you - so long as you aren't hurting anyone, do what you want.
Sad thing is, these people believe that you are hurting someone - yourself - and that they have the right to protect you from yourself.
Unfortunately, at some point it will take the rest of us doing something (instead of minding our own business) to stop the zealots. Damn it. I was just enjoying myself...
So true. Said well. I don't get it either.
Personally, I don't know why some what other people are doing in their bedrooms. Creeps me out.
This is probably one of the MANY reasons why I've moved away from organized religion..nutjob fanatics! I agree that I don't care what you do in your own home or what you believe, but it better not interfere with my life and my rights. Well said!!!
